Thanks to Ari, and his extra chopping blocks, I have a little height to my secret garden now! Once my flowers and shrubs spread, this area will be beautiful.
I’ve been trying to ignore the fact I’m getting old…silly me. The years don’t stand still simply because you ignore them. I have lumbar stenosis and spondylosis, as well as a dodgy hip (osteoarthritis), but could I get it into my head that I needed to slow down? Heck no! I’m a stubborn old bird. Finally my body dictated a new rhythm for me to follow, and it’s making a difference. I’m still doing everything I did before, just a little more slowly, and when I feel tired…I rest.
The quiet Monday I was hoping for didn’t happen. Hubby got our car fitted with its summer tyres. While he was gone I emptied two of the downstairs rooms ready for painting. After lunch I ran a few errands, and then planted some (bargain priced) fuchsias in my flower garden.
We’d just settled down for the day, when we got a call from Ari (Aristotle), our firewood man. The delivery of wood, scheduled for Tuesday, was being delivered on Monday evening instead. Why are we getting firewood with summer just around the corner? Because Abruzzo is very humid and the wood needs to season for a couple of years. If you burn it too soon it will fill your house with smoke. The wood we just had delivered will be ready in a couple of years.
Along with the firewood, Ari brought us three really nice chopping blocks. They were so nice that I snagged two of them for my garden. They are now pedestals for plants…what would hubby do with three chopping blocks anyway!
Ready for the 2026 season. Just needs to be stacked.
